Simple Tips for Mom’s Sanity!

As a woman, and as a mom, we have many responsibilities and not always as much help as we may need. Here are a few tips for your sanity when baby first arrives!

Get Help Cleaning: Ask a friend or family member, or hire someone, to come and help with some of your cleaning during the time before and after baby arrives. This can make a great shower gift for the mom to be if anyone is looking for suggestions.

Meals in advance: While you’re still up and at it, it’s worth taking the time to do a few meals in advance that can be frazzled_mom.jpgfrozen (like lasagna, chicken casserole….). That way when baby arrives, you’re ready for some time off. Be sure to have a few quick things ready in your cupboard like spaghetti and sauce and a good supply of fresh vegetables and fruits for munching.

Visiting hours: Birthing centers are usually good about giving mom time to rest, but with a home birth or when mom and baby arrive home from the birthing center or hospital, it becomes very important to limit the quantity of visitors anxious to share in your joy. Decide together as a family what is reasonable for you.

Things to have ready: In preparation for the birth of baby, there seems to be so much that we need, but really only a few things are essential in those first few days; newborn diapers, one piece pajama’s, receiving blankets and even if you are planning on breastfeeding, a bottle and nipple are a good idea, just in case there is a need for you to pump and feed baby. Have at least one “transitional” outfit that you can fit into and feel good while your baby body starts to shrink!

Mommy and Daddy time: It’s hard to imagine before baby arrives, just how much of a transition it will be with a new little one at home. Ensure the strength of your marriage by sitting down with your spouse and learning about your love languages. What one or two things can you do for your spouse that really fills their love tank? Make a note of what is top on their list. When baby arrives, you may not be able to do all the things you used to, but if you can do the top one or two, you’ll know you are still helping your spouse to feel loved and respected.
